Who is responsible
Street lighting on public roads is a municipal function inside municipal limits and a Gram Panchayat function in villages under the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act. Reporting the pole number or the location lets the electricity and maintenance records locate it quickly.
Important condition: Where the light is on a national or state highway, the road agency rather than the local body maintains the pole.
