Electricity and water
Power supply, billing, transformers and drinking water.
- Electricity problem — I need helpA general electricity complaint — we ask one question so you reach the right office and the right escalation.
- Apply for a new electricity connectionA new metered connection for a house or shop is applied for through the distribution company's portal or the local electricity office.
- Power cut, low voltage or transformer faultFrequent outages, low voltage, a sparking pole or a failed transformer in your locality; the distribution company's field office restores supply.
- Electricity bill wrong or disputedThe meter reading or bill amount is wrong, a bill arrived without consumption, or a subsidy is not credited; the bill is challenged with the utility first.
- Electricity meter not working or burntThe meter is stopped, burnt, spinning without consumption or has been replaced without a record; the utility must test and replace it.
- Electricity disconnected or wrongly cutYour connection has been disconnected, sometimes without notice or over a disputed bill; disconnection for recovery is regulated and can be challenged.
- Agricultural (Kisan) electricity connectionAn agricultural supply for irrigation, with a separate meter and a subsidised tariff, is applied for through the distribution company.
- Water problem — I need helpA general drinking-water complaint — we ask one question because tap supply, hand pumps and tankers are handled differently.
- Apply for a water tap or household connectionA household tap connection in a rural area comes under the tap water mission; in a city it is applied for from the municipal body or PHED.
- Hand pump or borewell not workingA village hand pump, tubewell or borewell has dried up or broken; repair is the responsibility of PHED or the Gram Panchayat under the water mission.
- Dirty, contaminated or smelly waterWater from the tap, well or hand pump looks, tastes or smells bad, or a complaint of contamination can be tested by the department laboratory.
- Water supply irregular or low pressureWater comes only for a few hours, or the tap runs dry and the supply is not restored on the notified schedule.
